The Brighton & Hove Arts & Creative Industries Commission exists to support our sector: to champion our strengths and advocate for the central role we play in the city’s life and its economy. At this moment of national crisis and the existential threat it poses to our city’s cultural offer, our collective actions and creative responses are more important than ever. We are in close dialogue across Brighton & Hove City Council, Arts Council England, Department of Culture, Media & Sport and others and we want to make sure the whole sector’s experience in the city is reflected. We would also like to offer our support in the most useful ways we can.
As Artists and organisations you are resourceful, adaptable, inventive & generous. This is a moment to unite and protect the cultural life of Brighton & Hove, by being there for one another, finding different ways to connect with audiences and coming up with solutions together to what right now, on our own, might seem unsolvable.
Our contribution to this effort is to create an online directory listing all current virtual arts activity happening locally, alongside any funds available to artists, organisations and creative businesses and to act as a central signpost for the city. Additionally, we will provide online surgeries to help you plan your cashflow forecasts and create contingency plans, as well as confirm your eligibility for any available business grants.
Stay safe and well – and when you can, keep on creating, you are the people that make Brighton, Brighton.
