The ABCD Plan for Cultural Recovery is mobilising activity around three strands. One of them, The Engine Room, is focused entirely on skills development, training and joining up the rich resources in the city. We live in one of the most creative cities in the UK with some of the most innovative, forward-looking cultural and creative organisations and workers based here. How as a city can we best support and nourish this ecology to recover and revive, adapt and grow?
The Engine Room is starting to set the foundations towards a streamlined programme for entrepreneurship and business growth for organisations and freelancers in the cultural and creative industries. 40 – 80% of the creative workforce in the city is freelance and this support will be focused on skills development for those entering the workforce through to those in leadership who’ve needed to adapt and shift with the shockwaves of the pandemic.
It’s in the foothills, there’s a way to go! As well as looking to generate new opportunities, The Engine Room is about connecting up and shouting about the exciting existing offers in the city’s reach.
Every few weeks we’ll be sharing a pull together of some of latest and best for sector support and you can help by telling us about:
– Training and skills development dates and opportunities you are hosting
– Skills networks you are starting or that exist and you want to share
– Space available or resource you’re up for sharing
The Culture in our City website will start to grow as a Brighton hub for upcoming dates and opportunities. Soon enough you’ll be able to post direct but for now, send to email@example.com and we’ll share through the city-wide blog and social.
